Flattered, but I I wouldn’t go that far. The greatest moment in TV history is obviously the time Jessie took too many caffeine pills on SAVED BY THE BELL, followed by the first moon landing, followed by that time on STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP when they had that smart conversation about humor while walking. There’s a lot of really good points about this being brought up. I highly recommend you follow these notes. Lots of valid concerns.

I was really disappointed to see the glee with which people that I usually respect (Cory Doctorow for example) were piling on to this bizarre sideshow. This is not justice; this is spectacle.

I suppose I should take some comfort in the fact that they are not yet even at the halfway mark in their indiegogo campaign and there are only 8 days left.

every single day people complain loudly about the “useless changes” tumblr makes to tumblr and how horrible the development team is but god forbid they sell it to somebody else

Tumblr has yet to be profitable and its investors are probably clamoring for a huge deal exactly like this.

You know those “share” buttons on sites like Amazon? Some times its really helpful to use those. Sure, no one cares that you bought the next Dan Brown book, BUT even if no one clicks on your “I bought Write with Lions” (*cough* Jim Markus) that little “share” buoys that book’s rankings in that service’s database which can be huge in getting the next sale for that creator.

Same goes for reviews.

According to various news reports Yahoo.com is planning to buy Tumblr for 1 Billion dollars.

Most of the deals thus far have been much smaller deals, more focused on hiring strong talent rather than getting shiny new products. The second paragraph then clarifies that Tumblr would, most likely, not be shut down.

It would make no sense to shut it down. You don’t buy tumblr just for talent and technology. You buy it for the users and the sheer volume of content that flows through it.

Also, I think $1B is a little cheap for Tumblr.

MtGox gets caught slipping, US government clamps down:

Yesterday the Department of Homeland Security served the Dwolla mobile payment service with a court order requiring it to immediately cease all account activities with the Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange….

Sigh… I was afraid of this. Apparently the head of Mt. Gox (which is based in Japan, but is run by an American) filed the papers for Mtgox’s incorporation improperly. As you can imagine, the US government doesn’t appreciate when people lie and make mistakes in their paperwork so they’ve cut off MtGox from some of its main forms of funding: a Dwolla account and Wells Fargo bank account.

It does kind of make sense that, at the time when MtGox would have been incorporated, it was intended to be run as a Magic the Gathering Trading platform. So no money would be “transmitted” in the sense that they would be moving currencies around the world. Once MtGox pivoted to bitcoins, that all went out the window. They should have reincorporated but it seems like they didn’t do this and now… well, MtGox is probably screwed as far as I can tell.

Its worth noting that the US government hasn’t “seized” MtGox or done anything like that. though they are essentially cut off from much of their traders. They were already hemorrhaging users before this and now I would imagine that anyone who can pull their funds out of there is well on their way to another, better solution.

For those in the US you are better off using CampBX a company based in the US who is still doing business right.

Also, even if you don’t give two hoots about Bitcoin, Dwolla is a really solid company and they’re worth checking out if you want to be able to cheaply send and receive money online.
